The technical stuff...

So as Interior designers we not only do the designing part here at NMMU... we go to all the lengths to source all the information we can gather about our building!!

If its finding old building plans from the 1860"s, historical information... or all technical information regarding the building and that includes even the drainage and water plans at the municipality...

Going back today to find out more information regarding zoning of buildings and to track down documents regarding historical buildings...

Site seeing...

Last week we did some site seeing of each students building that they have chosen for their Btech proposal...

It was interesting to see the buildings each student chose and what they plan on doing to their buildings, and can I say I have a intelligent bunch of individuals in my class!!!

Most of these buildings I have never seen or been into and what treasures there are hidden in Port Elizabeth!!! Their are so many opportunities in our beautiful city...

One building that stood out to me was the old train ways station because of its hidden historical beauty...

Building Proposal

Back to work...

In our Btech Interior Design year we do one project which consists out of redesigning a building from the flooring layouts to the finest little detail designs...

The building I chose is the historic "Fleming House" building located in the heart of Central, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This building was chosen for several reason but one reason was my love for history and architecture.

My proposal is to change this three storey Historical building into a restaurant with a coffee shop/ deli on the ground floor which is much needed in the area especially for tourist who visit the area for its beautiful historical architecture but have no where to sit down and dine whilst still being able to enjoy the historical architecture from the inside...

And with the current developments to restore Central this new design is a great start to bring in even more investors to the area not to mention the Proposal of the Waterfront development at the harbor in walking distance this design is sure to work.

Bringing this beautiful part of Port Elizabeth back to life, seeing it was lost for a while...

Thursday 19 February 2015

In the beginning of the year their are so much going on and things happening and in the ciaos of it all we found a way to have a little bit of fun (as perusal)...

Our Btech lecturer turned 40 last week and we had to celebrate!

So the day before her birthday, just after she left her office we snuck in (with the help of our super amazing 2nd year lecturer) and decided to leave her a early birthday surprise present...

O... and we had a little photo-shoot with props we found in her office.
Before we began with official classes we first redesigned our Btech computer labs with a bit of painting, rearranging the furniture layout and adding a little bit of detail.
-OBVIOUSLY.
